If you are an Ubuntu* user, you might not use your home folder like you should. For example, all my downloads go straight to my Desktop, instead of my home(~) folder where they belong. Clutter on your Desktop is quite unsightly, and as one must look at their Desktop constantly, I decided to fix this.

Here is the solution:

Create a folder [such as: ~/Desktopcloset] in your home directory.

Make a launcher on your panel [ (Right click)-> Add to Panel -> Custom Application Lanucher.

Name the launcher anything you like.

Make the command this: “mv ~/Desktop/* ~/Desktopcloset”

Now, whenever your desktop is cluttered, just press the little icon you made and all the files on your desktop will be moved to the folder you created.

Things to try:

Change the location of your “Desktopcloset,” perhaps you might want it directly dumped into your home directory:

mv ~/Desktop/* ~/

Or you could make it go to a differently named folder:

mv ~/Desktop/* ~/olddesktop

Have any more ideas for this little code snippet? Post ‘em in the comments.

* also aplies to any other Gnome Distro

Click Read More:

The game is made for online multiplayer. It is played on maps anywhere from extremely small to somewhat large. You may join a game in the middle of a round. There are several different game modes, such as Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Survivor, and many more. The game’s method of communication includes pre-recorded “radio” messages, and text based chat.

Game Mechainics:

You can have 1 primary gun at a time.

You can have 1 secondary gun at a time (Sub-machine guns and a Shotgun)

You may change your weapon at anytime, however your changes will take affect only after a respawn.

The game has a unique feature, in that you may jump off walls, and climb onto ledges.

The game is realism based. If you get shot, you will be wounded in a particular area. You will begin to bleed from that area of you body. You can then heal yourself by pressing ‘q.’ If you do not heal yourself the wound will affect gameplay, such as making you limp when you have been hurt in the legs.

How to Install

Go to urbanterror.net, and go to “Downloads.” Choose the Windows Installer verison. The download is quite large, so make sure you choose “Save,” instead of “Open.” Run the installer.

Choosing a Server

You can choose any server you wish. However, I have some recomendations. One is the server “Eagle Only 4.1.” I also have a server, named “JP’s Awesome Server.”

Click Read More to find out how to survive this outbreak.

Ok, here is the basics. This virus is a Social Virus. You get it from a friend, or so you think you do.

1. The Message

You get a message saying something along the lines of: “Hey dude, some webcam caught you with your girl friend at your house.”

Nasty, right?

The virus may not say that exact line, but the basic idea is that it says: “You got caught on video”
You go to what appears to be a YouTube link, but is actually a fake video website.

2. The Virus

When you go there, a window pops up telling you you need to update your “Flash Player” so, most of you knowing a little bit about the Flash player, and assuming it is legit, you download the file.
When you run the download, it installs a virus on your computer. This virus may do other stuff besides attack your Facebook account. It is confirmed that it will send the same message in Step 1 to all your friends.

How to Avoid It

The way to avoid this virus is to not click on those links you get in your inbox. Do not download any “Flash Update,” unless it is from a site you trust. Also, if you get a message sent by this virus by a friend, please reply to it, warning them they have been infected, and so they can tell their friends what happened.

The magical part of this is the TVUPlayer (choir singing “ahhhhhhh”) it lets you watch Live TV Shows Channels on your Computer. The first part of this how-to demonstrates how to install TVUPlayer.

Note: must have a Jailbroken iP(od Touch)one. (It is getting annoying to type in iPhone/iPod Touch, so iPhone includes both now.

“Read More” for Instructions

TVUPlayer:

Download TVUPlayer

Install and Lanuch TVUPlayer

Click “English”

Watch Tv

Easy? Ok, now for Watching on your iPod Touch/iPhone:

Using iP(od Touch)hone:

Get Orb to stream your media

Install Orb, and get your login id

Double Click on the Orb logo in your System Tray

Login then go to Open Applications > TV/Webcams > Internet TV > Add Custom

Type/Copy in http://127.0.0.1:8901/ (name it whatever)

Now Close That Window

Make sure TVU is open, and right click the logo in the Tray, click Options

Under Connection, click “Use Specific Port,” and type in 8901

Now, Install the “OrbLive” app on your Jailbroken iPhone

Launch TVUPlayer on your computer and load a Channel

Login there, go to “Online Videos,” then “Internet Channels,” then whatever name you used on step 5 (basicly the only one there besides “YouTube”)

ENJOY!

[Note] You can use Orb to watch your new tv on any computer also, even if you don’t have an iPhone, just login on the Orb website.

(By the way, if you don’t have a clue what Internet Explorer is, you are probably using it right now. It is what you use to see the Internet)

You might have heard of Firefox, maybe on a news website or from a friend, but you don’t see any reason why you should use it. You may think “Why switch to a new thing when Internet Explorer works fine?” You may just be to lazy to try it out, or have no idea how.

If you install Firefox, you can still use Internet Explorer, in fact, you can install it, try it, and if you don’t like it uninstall it, and nothing will have changed on your computer. You can also transfer all of your Bookmarks/Favorites and Cookies and your Homepage.

So, let me tell you why you should use Firefox, and shouldn’t use Internet Explorer

(Click “Read more” bellow)

(Continuing)

Mini Glossary: From now on I will refer to Internet Explorer as IE. Viruses/Ad-ware/Spy-ware/Mal-ware is now combined as Bad-ware.

Security

This is the part that gets most people to switch. IE is very dangerous, and it is possible for someone to take over your computer if you go to a bad website. This is because IE uses something called “ActiveX” which lets people install executable software on your computer. Usually this is good, and is used for good purposes. However, there are “holes” in ActiveX that let people install Virus/Ad-ware/Mal-ware/Spy-ware (hereon called Bad-ware) on your computer. These holes get patched by Microsoft, but new ones are found all the time, so you have to keep on your toes with IE. Another way ActiveX can infect your computer with bad-ware, even without “holes” is if you go to a seemingly innocent site, like a game, lyric, or music site, you find through Google or whatever. That site may ask you to install an ActiveX control to use there services. If the website is actually a trap, bad-ware will get on when you install the control. Sometimes you don’t know for weeks because the website seems to work ok. Also, holes can be in IE that have nothing to do with ActiveX

“Ok, so how does Firefox save me from this nightmare” you ask?

Firefox doesn’t use ActiveX, so it is free from those holes, and any security holes that are found are immediately fixed by an update.

Tabs

I almost forgot the Tabs! Wow.

Tabs are one of the best features of Firefox, I believe. (if you use IE 7 you have them)

What are Tabs? Tabs are little buttons between the address bar (and the bookmarks bar if you have it) and your webpage. You can switch between windows using them. It is a lot easier that using multiple windows.

Customization

Firefox allows you to install new “themes,” or looks for itself. If you want retro, you can go retro, if you want dark, you can go dark, and so on. There are hundreds of themes available.

Firefox also lets you add new functionality, like Ad-Blocking, built-in blogging, weather, and more, using Extentions. There are hundreds of Extentions that improve anything you can think of. And you don’t have to worry about bad-ware coming in through Extentions, because the Mozilla Foundation checks everyone before they add it to the list.

Firefox also has a Built-in Spell checker, and a Popup Blocker.

Check out the Customization at Mozilla’s Add-on Website.

Now What?

So, you are convinced and now you want to try Firefox out?

Go to GetFirefox.com and download it, then install it.

Easy.

When you start Firefox, it will ask you if you “Want to make Firefox the default browser.” If you are not sure if you want to use Firefox all the time, press “No.” If you decide When you decide to use Firefox instead of IE, press Yes.

Thats It!

If you like it be sure to go to this post in Firefox and thank me!
